
Kenjo is a Research Associate for the ʻŌhiʻa Disease Resistance Program (ʻŌDRP). Growing up with a passion for the outdoors, he spent much of his time backpacking and climbing. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Western Washington University before serving as a survival specialist for the U.S. Air Force. Kenjo began working on Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death (ROD) research at the Institute of Pacific Island Forestry, where he conducted pathology experiments and assisted the ROD squad in monitoring the disease’s spread. Now a member of the Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests with the ʻŌDRP team, he is dedicated to preserving ʻōhiʻa trees for future generations and protecting Hawaiʻi’s native ecosystems.
